Here’s the short animation I scored for Eric Nakamura and Saelee Oh earlier this year. I can’t remember if Eric asked me to do it, or I offered to score it, but I remember being really excited to work on it. I did two drafts of the music, the first draft was a lot faster and crazier, kind of like a cross between Frank Zappa and the Disneyland Electrical Light Parade.

It was cool, but needed to be slowed down abit, so I recorded it again. The final version took like under an hour to finish. It was a blast and I hope to score some more stuff like this in the near future!

Speaking of which…

I’m currently working on the score to the Surrogate Valentine movie which wrapped shooting a month ago. I recently had the pleasure of going to the Hangar Studio in Sacramento with Drummer Tim Bulkely and producer/audio guru Kurt Kurasaki to record some guitar/drum stuff. It was a hot one (106 F) but we managed to escape with our sanity and some cool tracks that will be released in conjunction with the film in 2011.

Can't wait to get this to your ears/eyes...

First off, the weather has been beautiful here, I really lucked out. Last time I was here, it was snowy and rainy, so it put a slight damper on sight seeing and hanging out. I’ve been here for 8 days and every one of them had been filled with a lot of laughs, good food, and even better people. I’ll post some pics and video soon. Very shortly I’m going to be eating a heavy metal burger. “What what?” Awwww yeeeeeeaaaahhhhh!

See you in a bit,

Goh

p.s. I just hit 5031 downloads of Ulysses! Video of me drinking a beer and doing the robot to come…

Sorry it looks so stark. I gotta learn how to change the look of this.

I got alot of stuff on my mind right now, so much that I have to drop some of it on my desk and floor. Well, at least I got a haircut and paid some bills today; a day of action. I’m getting ready to go to Chicago for their Asian American Showcase, or otherwise known as FAAIM (stands for Foundation of Asian American Independent Media) It’s only film festival to exclusively feature Asian American Films. Being their 15th anniversary, I’m excited to hang out and be peripherally involved with it. Patrick Epino’s film, “Mr. Sadman” (which I have some songs in) will be screening on Friday night, April 9th in a double feature with “Sunsets” which was directed by Michael Aki and Eric Nakamura.

Speaking of Eric, I’m going to be on a panel discussion with him and Tad Nakamura called Byte This: Surviving the Digital Age at Columbia College Chicago. I’m really looking forward to this, we’re all in different mediums (Print for Eric, Film for Tad, Jackassery for me) and it’ll be cool to pick their brains in front of an audience!

I’m on another panel the next day at the Unviersity of Urbana-Champaign with the legendary Angry Asian Man himself, Phil Yu I’ll have to write about that more in depth later.

Ok. Time to pack. See you in Chicago?

In the meantime, I’m looking forward to some delicious Bacon Soup upon arrival near Midway:

Hi Goh,

Found your music on late night youtube session! Your melodies are immense! I was thinking of covering your Surrogate Valentine and ive worked most of it out its just the second bit of the chorus that goes with “brings me to my knees” that im unsure of. I was wondering if you could possibly let me know which chords you use in the chorus?

Cheers mate.

Blaine Molloy

***********

What’s up Blaine, Thanks so much for the message. I’m happy and flattered you want to cover my song- pretty cool!

You’re in luck, somebody asked me the same thing about a year ago, so I wrote it out the best I could.

I’m a guitar teacher by day, I need to tab out my own songs and sell it as a songbook!

Hope this helps, Let me know if you record or video it.

Cheers from California,

Goh

p.s. do you mind if I post this (including your message) on my website?
******

I was joking around after I won the SF Weekly Award (I was in Belgium at the time of the awards night) and
was wondering if they gave out trophies… well, lo and behold, a few weeks later they emailed me telling me
that they had a trophy available for me. Thanks to everyone for voting, I wasn’t expecting this at all.
*****
In other news, I’ve been meaning to put out a limited edition EP for a long time, and this is a great occasion for it.
I just signed, numbered, and burned 23 CDs with 7 songs- all unreleased versions until now.
They’ll be available at the opening night screening (Nov 20th in Los Angeles) of my friend Patrick Epino’s film “Mr. Sadman”, which
features 3 of my songs (Track 1 being written specifically for one scene) I’ll be playing a 45 minute set before the film, so I hope you can come out!

Here’s the track list:

1. Mr. Sadman
2. Section of Sky #6 (Mr. Sadman end credits)
3. Hangman (unreleased version)
