I am thrilled and honored that Odessa Chen covered one of my tunes! I felt like my first album was a bit too “happy” sounding and was wondering which one she would choose. When she told me she wanted to do Highway Flowers, I realized that lyrically and imagery-wise, it was a no-brainer. There’s a flock of birds, a lost deer, a lonely cross… images that seem to come up in Odessa’s songscapes. I feel like she took my sketch of a song and made a beautiful oil painting out of it. I think I’ll hang it, right here… Thank you for your gift, Odessa.
