A few years ago, I think it was 2004, I played a show with a young man named Nick Bartunek. By young, I mean I think he was 16 or so. He played a set, and I was immediately blown away by how gifted he was.

Fast forward 4 years later, I see a bulletin on myspace from a band about some contest to win an opening slot for Coldplay. I check out the band (which is good) and am about to vote for them, but find this other band that’s better. Way better. “I have to vote for this better band, it’s a no brainer” I say. So I vote for them. “By the way, who are they?” I ask. Turns out, yes, this is Nick Bartunek’s band… but he’s grown up and developed some serious singing and writing chops. Serious enough for his band to win the contest and open up for Coldplay!
